Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing foundation (BI-1)
This foundation course gives you a solid introduction to how you can best use data to support your company’s business intelligence solutions. You learn the essence of what is required to establish an effective, efficient and flexible business intelligence environment and processes.The course covers the business related, organizational, architectural and other technical aspects, which are prerequisites to introduce, maintain and evolve your company’s business intelligence processes and solutions. You learn about the business related activities, such as creating a business intelligence strategy, a business case, do a cost benefit analysis and techniques for project and resource prioritization.
You learn about the most used architectures, including enterprise data warehouse, operational data stores, dependent and independent data marts and hybrid architectures. The purpose is to design a scalable and efficient architecture that covers your company’s business intelligence needs.
From a proven business intelligence and data warehousing methodology we walk thru the individual activities in a business intelligence implementation project. The business related and IT considerations and tasks are covered, the critical success factors as well as the most common ‘pitfalls’ and risks are also discussed. During the course you will be challenged in group exercises working on a case study.

Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing modeling and design (BI-2)
This course focuses on the heart of business intelligence and data warehousing: Data.
You learn about the different design types (e.g. ER-modeling, star schema and snow flaking) and their advantages and disadvantages. Data is seen both from a business perspective and an IT perspective as a means for communication across the organization. You will learn techniques for developing data models supporting requirement specification, and as a means for database implementation, communication and documentation.
You will learn about general data warehouse and data mart data modeling techniques as well as renormalization and history. Additionally, the course also covers data transformation techniques (ETL) from source (internal or external) to business user.
Through transformations data is restructured between different data models. You learn about methods and techniques which make you able to structure and describe data supporting business needs. Data architecture and data manipulation is described so that you are able to make qualified decisions regarding your company’s data warehouse structure. You will also be prepared to perform design and implementation tasks.
The course includes many practical exercises.
